India and Uzbekistan have agreed to elevate their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with a long-term uranium supply arrangement on the agenda.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on a two-day visit to Tashkent, told President Shavkat Mirziyoyev that the two countries would deepen energy cooperation. “We will also establish a long-term arrangement for the supply of uranium,” India Today reported him as saying, as New Delhi looks to source uranium for civilian nuclear power.
Talks also covered trade, investment, digital connectivity and defence. Bilateral trade is about $1.3 billion, with Indian companies running a project portfolio of more than $5 billion in Uzbekistan, as reported by Mint and India Today. From Tashkent, Modi travels to Bishkek for the SCO summit.
