The two met on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Bishkek. “Every day of war sets humanity back, whereas every step taken towards peace fills humanity with new hope and enthusiasm,” Modi said, calling India the land of Gandhi and Buddha.
He invited Putin to the BRICS summit in New Delhi next month. Putin said Russia-India ties were strengthening, citing trade, students and tourist flows. Reuters reported that the Kremlin said Putin had briefed Modi on the war, which Moscow calls a special military operation.
