India beat Sri Lanka by 72 runs in Dubai to win a record eighth Women’s Asia Cup. The team did not collect the trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s interior minister.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s side posted 183 for 5 at Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, then bowled Sri Lanka out for 111. Openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana put on 129.
The presentation was delayed. Naqvi handed the runners-up cheque to Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu. India did not come on stage for the winners’ medals or the cup. Head coach Amol Muzumdar said the call was the BCCI’s. “That stand has been taken by the BCCI, and we stand by it,” he told reporters.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the women’s team was in solidarity with the men’s side, which declined the trophy from Naqvi after last year’s Asia Cup, following the April 2025 Pahalgam attack. India Today reported that the board offered to have ACC deputy chair Khalid Al Zarooni, or a winning-board representative, present the cup; Naqvi rejected both. He left after presenting Sri Lanka’s cheque and, unlike last year, did not take the trophy with him.
