PM Modi arrives in Bishkek for SCO summit, Putin talks on the agenda

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Bishkek on Sunday for the 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, where he is expected to hold talks with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The prime minister was received at Manas International Airport by Adylbek Kasymaliev, chairman of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers. A traditional Kyrgyz dance was performed on the tarmac. Later, at his hotel, he was greeted with chants of ‘Vande Mataram’ and watched a yoga display set to ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’, PTI reported.

“Landed in Bishkek a short while ago,” Modi posted. “Will be meeting various leaders bilaterally and attending the SCO Summit tomorrow and the day after.” The 10-member grouping is marking 25 years. India joined in 2017. He will also attend the opening of the 6th World Nomad Games.

Chinese President Xi Jinping also arrived in Bishkek on Sunday, Xinhua and CNBC-TV18 reported. Modi landed after a two-day visit to Uzbekistan, during which the two countries elevated ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
