In Tashkent on Sunday, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev conferred Uzbekistan’s highest honour for foreign leaders on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who dedicated it to the friendship between the two countries.

The award, the ‘Oliy Darajali Do’stlik’ Order (Order of Highest Friendship), was presented at the Kuksaroy Presidential Palace during Modi’s two-day visit. The Prime Minister’s Office said it is Uzbekistan’s highest honour for foreign leaders and recognised his role in strengthening ties.
Modi dedicated the honour to 1.4 billion Indians. “Honoured to receive the ‘Oliy Darajali Do’stlik’ Order. I dedicate this to the enduring bond between India and Uzbekistan,” he posted. He noted that Indians know the word ‘Dostlik’, which means friendship, and said the award was not a personal honour but one for the country.
The ceremony followed talks in which India and Uzbekistan agreed to elevate relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, with a $5 billion bilateral trade target by 2030. Modi is due in Kyrgyzstan for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit on 31 August–1 September.
